Private G/22655 Henry (“Harry”) Hall(s), The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) died on Friday, 10th August 1917 and has no known grave. His name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial in Belgium.
There was clearly some confusion over his name: on the War Memorial he is recorded as HH Halls but both the Church Memorial and the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission entry record his surname as Hall so it seems likely that the War Memorial got it wrong.
There’s also an issue with his christian name. The Church Memorial has him as
Henry but the army have him as Harry. Apparently this is very common in this period: Harry being a nickname for people whose real name was Henry.
Thanks to the Roll of Honour–>Roll of Honour web site for their help in clarifying the above.
