Leading Signalman 220345 Alexander William Arthur Daisley served on H.M.S. Princess Irene, Royal Navy and died on Thursday, 27th May 1915. He is buried at Gillingham (Woodlands) Cemetery, Kent.
H.M.S. Princess Irene was a Canadian Pacific Railway ship which taken over by the Admiralty after she was launched. Princess Irene was serving as a minelayer when she blew up at Sheerness harbour. Only one out of her crew of 274 survived and 74 dockyard workers were also killed. There is a monument opposite the railway station.
