New play equipment is now being installed at the Community Centre at Coles Road thanks to the hard work of local parents – Emma Downie, Sarah Corder, Joelle Garden, Alison McKeegan, Edel Gower, Will Munns – who formed a Play Working Group and powered the project to replace the thirty year old play equipment.
This will be Milton’s first park for multiple ages, allowing families to visit together. The new all weather surface will allow year-round use and the working group have specified that everything (except the toddler swings) be for active play, where everything is powered by the children themselves. The toddler equipment includes a play house and a climb on fire engine for imaginative play, and there will places for adults to sit.
Funding for the project came through the Landfill Community Fund with a grant of £70,697 from WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund and £23,200 from The Amey Community Fund. Local donations of more than £6,000 were also received.
Jane Coston, Chairman of Milton Parish Council said: “Its great to see the Play Working Groups vision for this vital community facility moving closer to reality. We are extremely grateful for the funding WREN, Amey and local people have given us and we are looking forward to the new area being opened to the public.”
An opening event is being planned for late August.
