On Wednesday Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service has warned residents and businesses in the area of Waterbeach, Land Beach and Milton to keep doors and windows closed this morning following a fire at the waste recycling site in Ely Road, Waterbeach.
Approximately 500 tonnes of mixed recyclable waste are alight causing smoke to drift over the Waterbeach area. Two crews were at the scene and work has been ongoing by site staff to move as much of the unaffected waste as possible and prevent further spread.
Officers from the Environment Agency were in attendance and the fire is being allowed to burn itself out under controlled conditions. This may take a couple of days. People and businesses affected by the smoke are advised to keep doors and windows closed.
