Hot on the heels of the petition in support of the Abbey – Chesterton bridge (After this was publicized in Milton News on Monday morning we were second in the league table by ward of people who had signed the petition, beaten only by East Chesterton, but we’ve now dropped to fourth) we bring you another petition which should interest you if you use Milton Road (and that’s hard to avoid if you live in Milton).
This relates to the City Deal (The Greater Cambridge City Deal, worth up to one billion pounds, is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the councils do something radical and transformational for transport in south Cambridgeshire. The petition has been created by the Cambridge Cycle Campaign who are one of the supporters of the Better City Deal.) proposals for Milton Road have been released for consultation. In general, the options fall short of adequate provision for people who cycle and the petition here aims to show decision makers that there is demand for dedicated space for cycling on Milton Road.
If you’re a driver or a bus user rather than a cyclist you’re probably wondering why you should sign it. Well, if the cycling provision in Milton Road is better then more cyclists will use it. That both gets cyclists off the road and gets more people out of their cars onto their bikes, so should help the traffic flow more freely. So everyone wins.
