Eleven more community groups are celebrating after being awarded a share of over £12,000 by South Cambridgeshire District Council to support local clubs and projects including two in Milton where funding of up to £1,500 was awarded to Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust to purchase more all ability bike equipment for the You Can Bike Too initiative and refurbish a damaged bridge that gives everyone access to the Park.
Over recent years the Community Chest grant fund has awarded £52,000 annually to support local purchases but £72,000 has been made available this year due to the popularity of the scheme.
The funding is available to voluntary and community sector groups, charities and parish councils wishing to improve the quality of life for residents in South Cambridgeshire. Applicants can apply for up to £1,500 for:
- Improvements to community facilities
- Repairs to historic buildings/monuments/memorials
- Tree and hedge planting schemes
- Equipment and materials
- Start-up costs
Cllr Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
These grants are tremendously popular and it is fantastic to be able to help so many people. All public bodies and charitable groups are finding it harder than ever to secure the funding they need to get projects off the ground and we are pleased to be able to do our bit to support the fantastic work they are doing to improve services for residents.
We have increased the money we have made available this year but there is no doubt the funding will run out fairly soon. If you need help with a particular project, apply straightaway, grants will be issued on a first come, first served basis. Please do not miss out.
