Standing as a Parish Councillor

This May we have elections for both parish and district council in Milton. We are currently one parish councillor down there may well be others who choose not to stand again as with a fifteen member council there’s always some turnover every four years. So would you be interested in standing?

Before the last election the parish council leafleted some parts of the village and we still have that leaflet online. It explains all about what the parish council does and how you can get involved.

It’s perhaps worth mentioning as we know it puts some people off that the chances of you actually having to be voted in are small. We’ve not had a contested parish council election in a very long time. Normally the problem is making sure we can get fifteen people willing to stand, and if by chance we get more one will usually withdraw so there won’t be an election.

Anyway, if you do want to stand then nominations have now opened. Nomination papers must be received by the Returning Officer at South Cambridgeshire District Council no later than 4pm on Thursday, 9th April. If you would like a nomination pack the parish clerk’s office now has some.
