Community groups around South Cambridgeshire are celebrating after sharing a cash windfall of over £30,000 to support their projects but sadly once again none of them are in Milton.
In the latest round of grants, a total of 29 schemes have benefited from South Cambridgeshire District Council‘s Community Chest fund.
The Council awarded £1,500 towards the cost of new play equipment for Gamlingay Rainbow Pre-School and £1,448 to Gamlingay Players to help them purchase an extension to their demountable stage.
In nearby Abington Piggots, the village hall received £1,500 towards the repair work needed to be carried out on the roof and over the border in Steeple Morden, the Tennis Club was awarded £1,500 to help replace its existing hut.
Papworth Tennis Club also received a grant of £1,500 and this will be used to improve wheelchair access to the clubhouse.
Towards the east of the district, Ickleton Cricket Club received £639 to purchase specialised kit to help establish a youth team and St Mary’s Church in Shudy Camps was awarded £1,500 for the work needed to repair the churchyard wall.
Community Chest grants of up to £1,500 are available to small voluntary organisations, charities and community groups for activities and projects that benefit local people.
Cllr Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
We are really pleased to be supporting these community projects. We know that funding is becoming increasingly tough for the community and voluntary sector and these grants will be a welcome boost to local groups who work extremely hard and do an excellent job delivering services to our residents.
I would encourage any other groups in the district who need some financial help or advice to get in touch with us and see if we can help.
So if you are involved with an organisation in Milton which needs funds then why not try the Community Chest?
