You may be aware that last September the County Council floated a proposal to start charging for parking at all the Park & Ride sites, including Milton. This caused some discussion on the milton-chat mailing list where villagers pointed out that Butt Lane and surrounding roads would get an influx of commuters parking there if this happened.
The proposal was shelved by the County Council at the time but now it’s back and they don’t seem to be going out of their way to tell people about it as we’ve seen nothing in their press releases and there’s no trace we can find on their web site.
A letter has gone out to councillors however and you can see a copy here (Adobe/PDF, 45KB) on a city councillor’s web site.
They are proposing the following charges:
- Up to 1 hour – free
- between 1 hour and 12 hours – £1
- between 12 hours and 24 hours – £10
If you think this is likely to increase parking on Butt Lane, Coulson Close and other roads in that area or if you have concerns about increased traffic in Butt Lane from people in their cars hurrying to get the bus to work at a time when children are heading for Milton Primary School then you might like to write objecting to the County Council at policyandregulation@cambridgeshire.gov.uk to reach them by not later than 14th February quoting reference PR0074.
