If you want vote in the County Council elections on 2nd May Cambridgeshire County Council are reminding you that you must be registered first. All 69 seats on the County Council are up for election on 2nd May, including the Waterbeach division which includes Milton and our existing county councillor, Michael Williamson, is standing down so we will get a new person representing us. We will have a list of candidates for you next week.
But in order to be eligible to vote, you must be registered first. People are not automatically registered to vote just because they pay Council Tax. Anyone wishing to register should contact South Cambridgeshire District Council (not the county council) but this must be done by Wednesday, 17th April.
If you have already registered to vote but you be will be away on 2nd May you can apply to vote by post up to 5pm on Wednesday, 17th April.
County Council returning officer Wilma Wilkie said:
County Councillors make crucially important decisions on your behalf, so it is vital that residents exercise their right to vote on May 2. This is increasingly important as the Council prepares to make difficult decisions about council services in the next four years.
Anyone who is not sure whether they are registered to vote should check with the relevant District Council Electoral Registration Office as soon as possible. If they are not registered and wish to vote, this must be done by Wednesday 17 April. Your vote is vital – it will help shape the future of Cambridgeshire over the next four years.
