Preliminary work starts this week to construct a new £240,000 dual use path for cyclists and pedestrians between Milton and Landbeach. The new two metre wide path will help people get to the Cambridge Research Park on the A10 in one direction while in the other direction it will helps journeys for commuters to the Science Park area and a link to the wider cycle network in Cambridge.
Initial works will consist of cutting back shrubs and trees in preparation for the start of construction work on 2nd April. Construction will then start with the path between the cemetery, set back a metre from the road, and then continue with the section between the cemetery and Milton.
The scheme will also include improvements to the junction with the A10 for pedestrians and cyclists who wish to cross, such as narrowing the A10 to slow traffic and creating a staggered informal crossing point.
The project is financed from developer funding, the EU Bike Friendly Cities and the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).
Our county councillor Michael Williamson, said:
This scheme will bring great benefits to the area and really open up cycling as an option to the residents of Landbeach. A safer crossing on the A10 is also essential to access the shops and facilities of Milton and Cambridge.”
The works are expected to begin on 2nd April and should be complete within 10 weeks. Efforts will be made to minimise disruption to the public during this time.
