Milton in the Domesday Book

We’ve just added to our Milton’s History page a link to
Milton’s entry in the Domesday Book of 1086 taken from Open Domesday (Thanks to Rob for the alerting us to the existence of this site), the first free online copy of Domesday Book. It records that there were 36 households in what was then appears to have been known as “Middetone”, comprising 10 villagers, 12 smallholders, 5 slaves, and 9 cottagers.

If you’ve not visited our history page before it’s worth a look: there’s a wealth of material on there including several three different histories of Milton of varying lengths, maps, photographs and links to related sites.
