Back in March you should have had a leaflet through the door about a programme to replace all the street lights in Milton which is aimed to reduce the electricity used by about 46%. You can find details on the Cambridgeshire streetlighting web site.
This programme is currently on hold in Milton while Balfour Beatty and Cambridgeshire County Council decide which columns are to be removed and not replaced with the remaining works currently scheduled for next May. Your parish council has been given a draft list of columns which reads as follows:
Road | Removals |
---|---|
Benet Close | 1 |
Bulteel Close | 1 |
Church Lane | 1 |
Faulkner Close | 1 |
Fen Road | 2 |
Froment Way | 2 |

James Carlton Court | 1 |
Kings Hedges Drive | 2 |

Shirley Close | 2 |

They haven’t been told which columns are slated for removal in these streets but, as November’s council minutes (Adobe/PDF, 58KB) noted:
details received from Balfour Beatty/Cambs County Council of street lighting
improvements for parts of Milton. Some columns will be removed permanently (awaiting clarification from BB how many columns are to be permanently removed). Clerk and Asst Clerk will walk round areas affected and recommend lights for removal at the next parish council meeting [Note: final decision which lights are to be removed will be taken by Balfour Beatty]. The work will
take place in approximately 6 months time.
and this will be discussed at December’s parish council meeting next Monday (3/12).
