South Cambridgeshire District Council is preparing an updated Local Plan for the whole of South Cambridgeshire which will set out the vision for the district over the years to 2031. The Issues and Options Consultation will run from 12th July to 28th September and is the start of the process.
All residents of South Cambridgeshire are invited to participate in the consultation and help shape the Plan for the future. The consultation is running from Thursday 12th July to Friday 28th September, giving extra time on top of the standard six weeks normally allowed due to the holiday season, when some residents and parish councils may be away.
SCDC is running a series of public exhibitions across the district where you can see consultation material and meet Council officers. Ours will be from 3pm to 8pm on Monday 23rd July at Milton Primary School. If you can’t make that day they’re also at Waterbeach Primary School on Thursday 26th July or Histon & Impington Recreation Ground Centre on 14th September, both also from 3pm to 8pm.
A permanent exhibition will be on display at SCDC offices at Cambourne for the duration of the public consultation.
As part of the Local Plan, The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment was developed; it is a technical assessment to identify sites that are potentially suitable for housing development or for Gypsy & Traveller sites. Public consultation on the potential site options will form part of the Issues & Options consultation. Potential sites which have been registered (please note that no decisions have been made yet) can be seen
here. Only one site is currently listed in Milton and it will come as no surprise, it’s the former EDF Depot & Training Centre, Ely Road where the promoter’s proposal is for 89 dwellings with public open space including sports pavilion.
The more interesting proposal is for new settlements where one of the options, and one of the two which is apparently most preferred, is on land north of Waterbeach. This calls for a
Mixed use new community comprising up to 12,750 dwellings forming a new town with employment, town centre, local centres, education, sports facilities, public open space including parkland around Denny Abbey Scheduled Monument, which is linked to Cambridge by a new train station and a rapid bus service alongside the A10.
This obviously would have impacts on Milton, both good and bad, and you may want to comment on those.
