Park & Ride News

Officers are putting forward a number of recommendations to the Cabinet of Cambridgeshire County Council on Tuesday relating to the Park & Ride service. These include:

  • Concessionary pass holders should continue to be eligible for free travel on the Park & Ride service
  • Parking charges should be introduced at the Babraham site but only for non Park & Ride bus users who take spaces needed for those taking the bus into Cambridge to work, shop or visit (presumably people who are walking to work at Addenbrookes’ to save on car parking charges).
  • Authorising officers to draw up a fully costed business case based on different models for the provision of commercial Park & Ride services to be presented to Cabinet in January 2012 to maintain the existing service levels whilst reducing the cost to the Council.

Currently the service costs the council £700,000 per year, something they are aiming to reduce, and the conclusion looking the bullet points presented here looks as is the likely outcome is going to be a price increase for people who don’t hold concessionary passes and/or a reduced service level at off peak times.
