An initiative by South Cambridgeshire District Council they’re calling ‘Tips on Chips’ is changing the way local fish and chip shops, including our own Jaws Fish Bar here in Milton, cook and serve their chips to help reduce the levels of saturated fat and salt that they contain.
Some of the changes already made include using thick straight-cut chips, cooking them at quickly at 175°C, shaking and draining them after frying and keeping the cooking oil in good condition. Salt dispensers with fewer holes to encourage customers to add less to their chips, and shops will offer to serve smaller portions.
