County Council Consultation on Parking Enforcement

As you may know responsibility for parking enforcement in Cambridge City has already been taken away from the police and is now undertaken by uniformed officers provided by Legion Security. The County Council are now considering plans to do the same in the areas covered by East Cambridgeshire and South Cambridgeshire District Councils and of course Milton falls within the latter.

Ahead of the application to the Government for the powers to do this, interest groups are being consulted on the way in which parking enforcement would operate in the two districts before the application is finalised. The consultation period runs until 17th June.

The draft applications are available on the County Council website with South Cambridgeshire being here.

Civil Parking Enforcement gives local authorities greater control over the reduction of illegal or inconsiderate parking. This helps law-abiding drivers, and also benefits pedestrians, cyclists, the emergency services and bus passengers.

By using their own enforcement officers, local authorities can tailor patrols to suit each area, varying them when necessary and responding to one-off events where additional attendants may be needed.

The County are keen to hear from local residents, groups and organisations about their thoughts and ideas about their plans. Now is the time to get in touch to ensure they take on board your ideas so please take the opportunity before 17th June.
