Burglar Alarm Cold Calling

Over on the hisimp-chat mailing list, the Histon and Impington equivalent of [milton-chat], someone has been warning about cold calls from a burglar alarm installation company. They wrote:

We had 2 phone calls today from a lady claiming to be from CIS (Central Intelligence Solutions) saying that their engineers were in the area and they could fit 6 burglar alarms for £1 each. She asks if we were in a neighbourhood watch scheme and if we were over 79.

When asked for address and phone number she gave 55 High Street, Maidstone and tel: 01622 699870.

A quick bit of internet research shows a very similar sounding company SAS Fire & Security Systems and Crime Research UK who con old people into having “free” alarm systems installed but with extortionate monitoring charges. People have paid £1,000s for systems worth £200 at best. They seem to target different parts of the country so presumably are “working” the local area.

Do warn any aged relatives and friends to ignore these calls, and if you do want an intruder alarm there are many local companies who can install for a lot less than these scammers.
