The household recycling centre on Butt Lane now includes a paint reuse and recycling scheme. You will be able to bring paint tins with useable paint in them to these banks. The Cambridgeshire Community Reuse and Recycling Network (CCORRN), based in Foundry Way, March will then organise the collection of the paint for use by local charities, community groups, housing associations and individuals in social need.
This will be the first county where Dulux will also launch a nationwide trial to collect empty paint tins for recycling. Special paint tin cages will be placed at all nine of Cambridgeshire’s household recycling centres. The cages will accept empty paint tins, whether made from metal or plastic, from local residents. The paint tins will then be collected for recycling. If this trial in Cambridgeshire, and three other council areas across England, proves successful, Dulux may expand the recycling scheme nationwide.
Around 400 million litres of paint are sold in the UK each year, and it is estimated that around 56 million litres of this is left over, much of which could be reused. Recent research by The Community Repaint Network suggests that on average every household in the UK has 17 part filled old tins of paint stored in sheds and garages.
