Memorial benches beside the River Cam

The towpath from the Penny Ferry (formerly Pike & Eel) public house in Chesterton to Clayhithe Bridge, Waterbeach, is owned by the Conservators of the River Cam.

Memorial bench on the Cam
Regular towpath users will have noticed a number of benches beside the River Cam offering a chance for people to take the weight from their feet or to enjoy a peaceful lunch break or some quiet contemplation. Some of the older wooden benches have fallen into disrepair and metal replacements are now favoured for their durability.

Members of the public may request a memorial bench by contacting the River Manager. Any request would be tabled to the committee of Conservators as a
matter for decision at a future quarterly meeting. The next meeting of the
Conservators is on 15th January 2009. The person making the request would be expected to pay for the bench and the costs of its emplacement.

If you should like to discuss this opportunity, please contact the River Manager at Baits Bite Lock, Fen Road, Milton, Cambridge CB24 6AF, telephone
01223 863785.
