A14/M11/A428 Girton Interchange Closed This Weekend

We have just been told that the Girton Interchange will be “completely” (“Completely” is how it’s described by Carillion-URS but if you look at the list of diversions it’s not actually true: it looks like M11 northbound onto A14 westbound remains open as does A428 onto A14 eastbound and vice versa in both cases. Also the A14 eastbound appears to be open through the junction) closed this weekend from 9pm on Friday (18/7). The work is expected to be completed by 6am on Monday (21/7).

The diversion routes are as follows:

  1. Cambridge – Traffic using A1307 will be diverted to Histon Road to join the A14 westbound at Junction 32. Traffic will then be directed to the Caxton Gibbet Roundabout and then north up the A1198 to rejoin the A14 at Godmanchester.
  2. A14 Westbound – Traffic travelling westbound on the A14 will continue on the A428 towards Caxton Gibbet and then up the A1198 to rejoin the A14 at Godmanchester.
  3. M11 Northbound – Traffic from the M11 wishing to travel east on the A14 will proceed on the A14 westbound to Junction 30 (Dry Drayton) to return on the A14 eastbound.
  4. A428 Eastbound – Traffic from the A428 wishing to travel east on the A14 will be first diverted west along the A428 to Caxton Gibbet and then onto the A1198 northbound to rejoin the A14 at Godmanchester.
  5. M11 Southbound – Traffic wishing to travel on the M11 southbound from Girton Interchange will first be directed west onto the A428 to the Hardwick Junction to then return east along the A428 to the A1303 off slip road. Traffic will continue on the A1303 to join the M11 at Junction 13.
  6. Cambridge Crematorium – Traffic will be advised to exit at Junction 30 prior to the crematorium loop at Dry Drayton, to proceed south on Oakington Road/Scotland Road at Dry Drayton to the A428 and then east to the A1303 off slip road. Thence to Madingley village, to rejoin the A14 Westbound.

Local Traffic will be diverted through Girton to the traffic lights in Oakington and then left towards Dry Drayton.
