SCDC asking for comments on refuse collection

South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) is asking residents to feed through comments about the waste and recycling collection arrangements over Christmas and New Year.

A number of residents have contacted the council to comment on the arrangements and others have contacted their local councillors. The council is now urging all residents to make their views known so that they can be taken into account as the council reviews the arrangements and looks at how they can be improved for the future.

“We’re aware that some people experienced difficulty with the waste and recycling collections over the Christmas and New Year period and we’d like to improve for the future”, said Cllr Spink, portfolio holder for housing and environmental services.

“The system used this year was the same as the previous year, having prompted the fewest number of complaints we’ve had about the holiday collection arrangements. The alternatives used in previous years – collecting early or rolling collections after bank holidays – have also posed problems for some residents, and we’ve received some positive comments about the current system, so we’re keen to look at how we can improve. I would urge anyone with a view – both positive and negative – to get in contact.”

“We also want to make sure that everyone knows about the arrangements in advance, so we will make sure that households receive a separate notification about the Christmas and New Year arrangements for 2008/9, in addition to the usual calendar in South Cambs magazine.”
