Get your binoculars ready for the Big Garden Birdwatch

Birdwatchers who want to get some good ‘spottings’ for the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch can make their way to Milton Country Park this weekend.

Host to a wide range of birds including green woodpeckers, jays, kingfishers and even the occasional buzzard, the Park is a great place to participate in the birdwatch and it will be holding its birdwatch on 27th January from 10am to 11:30am. It will also be an opportunity to learn about birds, as the rangers will be on hand to help with any of those difficult to identify birds.

The Big Garden Birdwatch started in the late 1970s and is now the world’s biggest survey of its kind. Last year in Cambridgeshire the house sparrow, starling and collared dove were the top three spotted across the county.

Senior ranger Malcolm Busby said:

This is a great opportunity for families to come to the park and find out about birds and how to identify them whilst helping a good cause at the same time. The information we get will also be important so that we can see how our species and numbers are doing in the park It’s also good fun and very valuable work.

Anyone wanting to join the Birdwatch should go to the visitor centre on the day where the rangers will provide information on how to count the birds.
