A Community Chest grant fund, which has awarded nearly £300,000 over the last five years to 320 projects for South Cambridgeshire communities, now has a further £52,000 up for grabs.
The funding is available to voluntary and community groups, charities and parish councils wishing to improve the quality of life for residents in South Cambridgeshire. Applicants can apply for up to £1,500 for:
- Improvements to community facilities
- Repairs to historic buildings/monuments/memorials
- Tree and hedge planting schemes
- Equipment and materials
- Start-up costs
Last year, the fund awarded over £84,000 to 73 community groups, supporting a wide range of local projects. For example Sawston Youth Group received funding to help purchase rock climbing equipment for its annual residential trip and Comberton Crusaders Football Club received money towards new football goals so the youth teams can play with new up-to-date equipment.
Cllr Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
We know how important these small, local community groups are that run across South Cambridgeshire and what a difference they are making to the lives of local people.
They really deserve some help and hopefully by giving them a bit of money, they can make a big difference in the district.
If you need help with a particular project, apply quickly as grants will be issued on a first come, first served basis and it would be a shame to miss out on money that is available.
Applications will be accepted from Friday, 1st April and the first round of grants will be agreed at the Leader’s Portfolio meeting in May. For full details about the fund and guidance on eligibility, visit the community chest page on SCDC’s web site.
