Salting the Jane Coston Bridge

The Jane Coston Bridge is getting very icy in this cold weather and there are grit bins at both ends. The idea of the grit bins is for passers-by to spread what they can, not for the council to do it. There is no insurance problem provided you’ve used it in the way it was intended.

Take a suitable spreader with you like an old fizzy drink bottle or four pint milk jug with the bottom cut off and fill it from the first bin, scatter some as you cross, then leave it in the second bin for the next passing pedestrian to do their bit.

And if you don’t have a spreader then have a look in the first bin you get to and, if there’s one there, then you know what to do.
