County Council plans move away from Cabinet Model

The county council election results left the council in a formal position of “no overall control” but after two rounds of voting on Tuesday the leader of the council remains a Conservative, Cllr Martin Curtis local member for Whittlesey North.

The other nominees put forward were Cllr John Hipkin (Independent Group) and Cllr Maurice Leeke (Liberal Democrat) who is our own county councillor (and is now leader of the Lib Dem group on the council!).

Members also voted that the council should change in a year’s time from the current cabinet system of governance to a committee system. This will now be looked at by their Constitution and Ethics Committee. This is a significant change bringing a return to the more traditional model of local government which both the county and SCDC have moved away from in recent years.

You can find more details about both the voting for leader and the new (and last for now) cabinet here.
