The Government announced on Monday plans to close Waterbeach Barracks in three or four years time. An MoD statement said:

We plan to vacate and dispose of Waterbeach which, subject to the necessary planning consents, will support the Government’s broader aim of increasing the supply of new housing.

Long time readers will remember that a proposal for a development at Waterbeach with up to 13,000 houses lost out to Northstowe last time a new community needed to be found but it looks like at some point in the next decade we may now end up with a large new community north of us trying to use the A10 to get down to Cambridge.
