As part of their ongoing and creative public event programme, Milton Country Park is hosting ‘OUR BIG FAT GYPSY FESTIVAL’ over this weekend (12-13/6).

This gathering is a new event for the celebration of Gypsy Roma Traveller (GRT) History Month which follows the centuries-old tradition of gypsy fairs and festivals held up and down the country. It is being organised and run by the GRT community, and promises to be a memorable, friendly and vibrant occasion.

All members of the public are welcome to this free event. It is a chance for both traveller and non-traveller communities to share a positive experience in a superb outdoor location, and for people to gain an insight into the old and new ways of the GRT community, and its rich culture and heritage.

There will be a wide range of market stalls, demonstrations of traditional skills and crafts – such as peg-making, wagon-painting, flower-making and fortune-telling – horses, classic wagons and trailers, live music, step dancing, photography and films.

It will also host the regional heat for the national ‘Travellers Got Talent’ contest, (4-7pm Saturday) which the general public are welcome to watch.

The Gypsy Council AGM will also be held here on Sunday at 1 pm, and is open to anyone.
