Latest Swine Flu Advice

Now that H1N1 flu is circulating widely it is no longer possible to contain it by aggressively treating cases and contacts of cases. Here is the latest HPA advice for patients updated on 3rd July straight from the doctors’ surgery.

The advice in summary is:

  1. If you have a flu like illness with a temperature over 38°C you should
stay at home and phone your GP (or CAMDOC out of hours on 01223 464242).

  2. If you already have another serious illness (e.g. heart disease,
diabetes, asthma requiring treatment) or are pregnant or are under 5 you
will currently be advised to take antiviral treatment.

  3. Patients not in these groups may well not need any treatment but this
will be decided by discussion with your GP.

  4. In any case you should stay at home and not come into contact with
people outside your household until you are well again.
